"If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail" โ Benjamin Franklin. But is planning enough? In my opinion, having a strategy to win is more important than just planning. It's satisfying to sit and plan that I will have a business, I will hire more people, etc. However, it's difficult to devise a strategy that outlines how you will be competitive enough for customers to buy from you, ensuring profitability. Additionally, creating a strategy doesn't guarantee the outcome; it is what you believe will happen.
Examples of companies that win due to strategy: Netflix - Digital-First Strategy ๐บ When competitors were focused on physical media, Netflix introduced a digital-first strategy with an online streaming platform, which was a game-changer in the entertainment industry. Southwest Airlines - Low-Cost Strategy โ ๐ต Southwest Airlines had a low-cost carrier strategy and took several measures to lower costs:
- Fly point-to-point so that aircraft do not wait on the ground, as they only earn money when the plane is in the air.
- Fly only one kind of aircraft, as systems, Avio bridges, and simulators are set up for the same aircraft, lowering the cost.
- Do not offer meals on flights.
- Have short flights and encourage people to book themselves instead of using agents.
The strategy was to significantly lower the cost of every operation compared to major carriers to have a competitive advantage. It is important to strategize not only in business but also in life to win and win Big every time.
